One month ago today our second child and son – Tjeert – was born. I know I am pretty late announcing him to the foodblogging world but it has been a pretty busy month with delivering, getting used to handling two children instead of one, sleeping less during the night, chickenpox (not me but the kids) and my oldest son's birthday. But everything is well and Tjeert is a pretty good baby. Still working on getting some sort of routine however….
This is Tjeert when he was one week old, we used this picture for the birth announcement.
The picture of the white and blue ‘things’ above is a treat called ‘beschuit met muisjtes’. It is traditionally served in the Netherlands when a child is born, blue and white for boys and pink and white for girls. Translated to English it would be ‘Dutch rusks with little mice’. The sprinkles are actually aniseed coated in sugar. Most Dutch people like the taste but that’s probably because we’re used to eating liquorice 😉 For a little more info on ‘beschuit met muisjes’ check out Wikipedia.
And because this is a blog about all things sweet, a picture of the birthday cupcakes I made…
